Initially released for PC, Playstation, and Xbox, Apex Legends is undoubtedly one of the best battle royale games. On March 9, 2021, Apex Legends became the latest cross-platform title ported to Nintendo’s handheld console, Nintendo Switch.
The cross-platform gameplay offered by Apex Legends enables Nintendo Switch players to enjoy the game with PC, Xbox, and Playstation players. Now, all of this surely sounds wonderful, but there are a few catches. There are mixed reviews within the community about Apex Legends’ Switch version. Let’s shed some light on players’ issues with the new version of Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch.
Issues With Apex Legends Nintendo Switch
Field of View (FOV)
FOV is the observable area a player can see through the screen. Players can adjust the FOV values from 70-110. The higher the FOV, the more the player will see on their screen and vice-versa. However, in the Switch version of Apex Legends, players will not get the option to change the FOV. This is a downgrade, especially for the players who will switch to Nintendo from other platforms.
We believe that developers didn’t implement the FOV slider to control the FPS drop, as a higher FOV means unstable FPS in-game. For the same reason, the FOV for Apex Legends Switch is capped at 70.
Lower FPS
Many players took to Twitter to complain about the low FPS issue with Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch. One of the reasons could be the bad optimization of Apex Legend’s Nintendo Switch version.
However, it’s only been a few days since Respawn Entertainment released the Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends. So, the FPS issue with the game isn’t that shocking. Furthermore, future updates for Apex Legends Switch will probably fix issues with the game.
Graphics
Apex Legends’ graphics on Nintendo Switch are inferior to that of PC, Xbox, and Playstation. While the compression of graphics to suit the compatibility of Nintendo Switch is done amazingly, some players complained that the graphics are a bit blurry. Understandably, Nintendo Switch is a handheld console with limited capability, unlike PC, Playstation, or Xbox.
Conclusion
All things considered, Nintendo Switch can’t be compared with other consoles in terms of games’ performance. Nintendo Switch is a smaller, compact console with lesser capability than Xbox, Playstation, and PC. While some of the players may prefer the PC, Playstation, or Xbox version of Apex Legends, some may prefer the Switch version, even after its flaws.
