Indian Devs Have Created An App To Find Where A Product Was Made

Amidst the rising Indo-China border tensions, the #BoycottChina movement has intensified, leading to new developments, even in the tech field. On one hand, people have started boycotting Chinese products, and on the other, we have developers who are helping them identify ‘made in China’ products.

Two developers from Noida, Mohit Jain, and Akshay Tank, have created an app that checks products to identify if they made in China, India, or elsewhere. The app, dubbed ‘Made In India,’ is currently available on the Google Play Store for free.

The ‘Made In India’ app carrying PM Narendra Modi’s “self-reliant” slogan can scan your day-to-day products to find its country of origin. So far, the app is capable of recognizing products from 115 countries.

How ‘Made In India’ App Works?

The app is pretty simple, and it has one feature only. Just open the app, and you’ll be greeted by a screen where you can choose to scan the barcode of a product or enter it manually.

The app automatically detects the country where the product manufacturer is from and displays the flag of the particular nation.

However, one thing to note is that the app checks for the country where a product maker is registered. In other words, if a product is made in China and company is registered in India, the app will show the flag of India and vice-versa.

Other Apps That Identify Chinese Products

Recently, several apps that help people identify and boycott Chinese products and apps have come to light. One such app that went viral was Remove China Apps, which helped in deleting Chinese apps from smartphones, but it wasn’t entirely effective.

However, Google removed the app in question from Play Store after it was found misleading users and violating the deceptive behavior policy.

What’s your view on China-based products? Do you find such apps useful? Leave your comments below!
