These Are The 40+ Pre-Installed Android Apps On Surface Duo

Microsoft’s Surface Duo is making rounds in the news following its recent launch. The dual-screen device is trying to make its name as a productivity-focused smartphone.

As you know, Google’s Android 10 operating system powers the Surface Duo. Like other Android devices, it also comes pre-loaded with a defined set of Google-made apps, along with Microsoft’s home-baked apps and services.

Microsoft has revealed the Surface Duo specs in detail, and it has also provided a list of all the Android apps that come pre-installed on the Surface Duo.

Microsoft Surface Duo Pre-installed Apps

The dual-screen smartphone comes packed with over 40+ apps from Microsoft, Google, and other popular vendors. As of now, we can’t confirm how many of these apps can be removed from the device to achieve a bloatware-free experience.

List of Google Apps on Surface Duo:

  • Google Search
  • Google Assistant
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Drive
  • Google Duo
  • Google Photos
  • Google Play Movies & TV
  • Google Play Store
  • Google Maps
  • Chrome
  • Gmail
  • YouTube
  • YouTube Music
  • Contacts
  • Messages
  • Phone
  • Files
  • Clock
  • Calculator
  • Sound recorder

List of Microsoft Apps on Surface Duo:

  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office Lens, PDF Reader, and more
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Microsoft OneNote
  • Microsoft To Do
  • Microsoft News
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Microsoft Bing Search
  • Intune Company Portal
  • LinkedIn
  • Microsoft Solitaire Collection
  • Surface Audio

List of other apps on the Surface Duo (some are limited to AT&T):

  • Spotify (Unlocked)
  • HBO MAX (AT&T)
  • AT&T TV (AT&T)
  • My AT&T (AT&T)
  • Call Protect (AT&T)
  • Amazon Shopping (AT&T)
  • NBA (AT&T)

In addition to the apps mentioned above, the Surface Duo also packs some apps as core features that are otherwise standalone apps on other Android devices. For example, Microsoft SwiftKey and Your Phone Companion (Link To Windows) app.

It goes without saying that having different versions of the same thing would create clutter on the dual-screen device, aka bloatware. For example, Surface Duo comes with both Chrome and MS Edge as web browsers. Also, Google Drive and MS OneDrive fulfill the same purpose, although some users want to use both.

Anyway, some of the Google apps are more of a necessity nowadays, like Google Maps and YouTube, to name a few. Let’s wait to see how Android apps perform on Surface Duo in the real world. The device is up for pre-order and will start shipping on September 10.
