New Windows 10 Setup Screen Asks ‘What’s The Purpose Of Your Visit?’

Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 10 Insider Build 20231 to the Dev Channel users. A big change added to Windows 10 is in the initial setup process, which Microsoft says is for “improving relevancy of initial device setup.”

While setting up your PC, Windows 10 will ask how you plan to use your device. For instance, whether you’re using it for home, education, entertainment, or work, you can tick the relevant checkboxes.

Depending on what option you choose, the Windows setup or OOBE (Out-of-the-box experience) screen may throw different options at you. However, there won’t any visible change after setup completes.

You can access the feature during a fresh Windows installation using the Build 20231 ISO or while resting your PC and doing a clean Windows 10 installation with the said build installed.

Microsoft said it would share more info on this in the near future. Right now, the feature is available to a limited set of Dev Channel insiders while the company is seeking feedback. It will arrive for the remaining insiders in the coming days, Microsoft added.

Apart from this, Windows 10 Build 20231 allows enterprises to modify app file associations on a per-device and per-user basis. Also, the Meet Now feature added to the Taskbar for quick Skype video calls is now available to all Dev Channel insiders.

Speaking of bug hunting, Microsoft has fixed an issue that causes ALT + Tab app order to change unexpectedly and make the user switch to the wrong app. It has also taken care of the vEthernet adapter disconnection issue in WSL.
