Google has released the Android 11 beta 3 today. It’s now only a matter of time before the public version of Android 11 comes out.
If things go right, Google will release its final Android 11 public build in early September, reportedly on September 8th. However, the tech giant hasn’t been able to deliver things on time, thanks to Coronavirus. From cancelling this year’s Google I/O event to delaying the release of Android 11’s first beta, not to mention the delay in delivering the Pixel 4a to India, it has been a bumpy ride for Google.
One can only hope that things would work out according to the original Android 11 roadmap.
What’s new in Android 11 beta 3?
Since the public launch is “coming very soon,” it’s no surprise that Android 11 beta 3 has minor changes and mostly holds several fixes and optimisations, nevertheless they are important.
For instance, the Exposure Notifications System on Android 11, used for contact tracing apps can now run without requiring users to enable the device’s location settings. This would solve some of the developers’ concerns regarding how these apps handle privacy.
Apart from that, there is a new Easter egg on Android 11, where turning the dial (after multiple attempts) brings a cat emoji. Now, users have to go find “Cat Controls” on the revamped Power menu to begin a game of finding cats on Android.
Regarding the new power menu, the power button is now on the very right and tapping brings up a full-screen kind of a menu. Other than this, there are of course several bug fixes and other little improvements.
There is not much change in the Google Beta program i.e Android 11 Betas are still only available to the Google Pixel lineup (except Pixel 1) and a handful of other devices.
Pixel users can either wait for the OTA update or download the Android 11 beta 3 system images from here.
