After more than six months of development, the creator and maintainer of AV Linux Glen MacArthur released a new version 2020.11.23.
The latest version is a completely new project named “AV Linux MX Edition” or in short “AVL-MXE,” which has switched its base from earlier Debian 10 “Buster” to a new MX Linux 19.3 “Patito Feo.”
To give you a brief, AV Linux is a multimedia-oriented Linux operating system that contains a collection of audio, graphics, and video production software for artists, and media creators.
Being a first build based on MX Linux, AVL-MXE comes in two separate editions for the x86_64 platform with Xfce desktop, Linux Kernel 5.9.1-rt20, and i386 platform with (Xfce plus) Openbox window manager, Kernel 5.9.1-rt19.
Unlike the MX approach to provide trusted third-party repositories for software packages, AVL-MXE provides carefully selected repositories that are specifically created for users of Debian GNU/Linux.
The trusted Debian repositories this new edition provides are as follows:
- AVL-MXE Kernel Repository
- The Liquorix Kernel Repository
- The KXStudio Repositories
- WineHQ Wine Repositories
- Cinelerra-GG Repository
- Debian Docker Community Edition
Surprisingly, this new MX edition features the latest Ardour 6.5 (full version) and Harrison Mixbux 6.2.26 (demo version) Digital Audio Workstation with new VST3 support.
Here’s the summary of other key features that AV Linux MX Edition includes:
- Expanded AVL-MXE Assistant
- New custom “Diehard” and “Earth” Themes
- CPU governed for performance by default
- Realtime Configuration Quick Scan
- Custom Realtime Preempt Kernel for optimal low-latency Audio potential
- falkTX’s KXStudio Repositories for up-to-date Audio Applications
- Extensive Audio/Video and Administrator-friendly Custom Actions
- Seamless JACK Audio/MIDI environment with PulseAudio Integration
- One-click removal of all Demoware
