Many of you may not know that OnePlus has a parallel Android skin known as HydrogenOS, which is exclusively available to OnePlus users in China.
OnePlus has confirmed (via Weibo) that HydrogenOS 11, based on Android 11, will be released on August 10th. This is terrific news, not only for OnePlus China users but also for OnePlus users across the globe. That is because HydrogenOS and OxygenOS are closely related to each other.
After parting ways with the CyanogenOS, once one of the best custom ROMs for Android, the company decided to launch two separate Android skins targeting different markets — OxygenOS and HydrogenOS for global and Chinese market respectively. Initially, the two Android skins differed to a great extent.
However, they have gradually become remarkably similar. At this point, the only significant difference between the two is that HydrogenOS lacks Google Play Services and support for different languages.
Given the two ROM’s similarity, the arrival of HydrogenOS 11 indicates that the Android 11 version of OxygenOS isn’t far away. OnePlus has always been fast in delivering the latest Android updates. Since we know that the Android 11 stable version arrives in early September, we can expect the release of OxygenOS 11 in September or at least in October.
As for the features, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau previously shared a teaser video which suggested that Android 11-based OxygenOS will bring Always-On Display to OnePlus devices.
Other than that, we can expect all the fantastic Android 11 features in OxygenOS 11, such as a conversation section in the notification shade, smart home device controls right on the power button menu, one-time permission to apps, and a lot more.
OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro users are already running the Android 11 beta version, so we can expect them to be the first from OnePlus to enjoy the upcoming OxygenOS update in its stable form.
