Microsoft Names Windows 10 20H2 As October 2020 Update

Microsoft has announced that the upcoming Windows 10 feature update will be known as October 2020 Update. The company is now almost done with the development of 20H2, and the final Build 19042.508 (KB4571756) is being pushed via the Release Preview Channel.

As we already know, 20H2 is the second feature update of this year and will only bring performance improvements and minor changes building on top of the May 2020 Update (20H1).

As the name suggests, the October 2020 Update should likely release next month, but given Microsoft’s history of unwanted bugs and delays, it might get postponed in the worst case.

Speaking of the 20H2 features, one of the visible changes is in the Start Menu that has got a touch of Fluent Design. The Start Menu Tiles now have a semi-transparent solid background instead of each having different colors. Also, the app list icons have a transparent background that contributes to its cleaner UI.

Pointing towards the known issues in Build 19042.508, Microsoft said that users might encounter “Element not found” error when launching WSL on their PC. It added that a fix for the same is progress and will be released in an upcoming 20H2 serving update.

Now to install the October 2020 Update (KB4571756) right now, you need to be part of the Windows Insider program just like always. While Microsoft will provide automatic updates to Beta Channel users, the insiders on the Release Preview Channel will have to initiate the download manually on the Windows Update page in the Settings app.
