Netflix Direct Will Make Sure You Actually Find Something To Watch

Many of us use a Netflix subscription to watch movies and TV shows online. But one of the biggest pains is to find something worth watching after scouring through the massive catalog offered by the streaming service.

Hopefully, the company is trying to make our lives easier by introducing a new feature called Netflix Direct, where its content will be offered in a linear channel, much like what we see on cable TV channels. In other words, Direct will act as a Netflix web TV channel where content from its catalog will be streamed at pre-defined time slots.

This way, viewers won’t have to fire their brain circuits to find a title to watch. Or, Direct could throw something interesting that users may never find on their own. Netflix said it chose France because the region still prefers traditional TV that provides a “lean back” experience.

As reported by Variety, Netflix has chosen France as the first country to begin the testing of Netflix Direct. It offers international, French, and U.S. TV shows and movies available in its French library to the users.

The channel initially began on November 5 and will expand to more French users by next month. One thing to note is that the initial access to Direct will be limited to web browsers, unlike Netflix’s on-demand catalog, which is available on a plethora of platforms.

Netflix has previously tested a shuffle feature that showed random content to users assuming they may like it. Direct is different in the sense that all users will watch the same content at the same time.

While this approach is a u-turn to Netflix’s fundamental roots, the company has realized that browsing through its ever-increasing catalog will only make people’s lives harder. Let’s wait for the Netflix web tv channel to land in other countries.
