Range Rover Gets New Mild Hybrid Diesel And PHEV Petrol Variants

Yesterday, Land Rover introduced a new 48V Mild Hybrid 3.0-liter Ingenium diesel engine for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. The automaker also added a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol plug-in hybrid variant ‘P400e’ to its PHEV family.

Additionally, the new special edition models also join the Range Rover Fifty limited edition range that the company launched last month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its luxury SUV family.

The new 3.0-liter hybrid straight-six Ingenium diesel engine is designed to meet stringent global emissions norms and offer reduced fuel consumption. The MHEV is available in three engine outputs: 245 BHP, 295 BHP, and 345 BHP.

Engine Configuration Power Output
D250 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel MHEV 245 BHP and 600 Nm of Torque
D300 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel MHEV 295 BHP and 650 Nm of Torque
D350 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel MHEV 345 BHP and 700 Nm of Torque

According to Land Rover, the new diesel engines are smoother, more refined, and provide higher mileage as they boast a new 48V mild hybrid system. In terms of numbers, the new D300 Ingenium engine offers a fuel economy of 33.0 mpg (11.6 km/l) as per the WLTP cycle while emitting CO2 as low as 225 gm/km. The D350 delivers a mileage of 30.8 mpg (10.8 km/l) with a CO2 emission of 241 gm/km. We know about the fuel- efficiency of D300 and D350 but the automaker did not mention the fuel-economy of the D250. It produces the least power and torque out of the three.

Apart from this, the new petrol range includes the following options:

Engine Configuration Power Output
P400 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol 394 BHP and 550 Nm of Torque
P400e 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol PHEV 398 BHP and 640 Nm of Torque
P525 5.0 V8 Supercharged petrol 517 BHP and 625 Nm of Torque
P565 5.0 V8 Supercharged petrol 557 BHP and 700 Nm of Torque

Out of all the engines in the new Range Rover, the P400e is the most fuel-efficient. The new P400 is powered by a 2.0-liter engine along paired with a 13.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. With this setup, the P400e delivers a mileage of about 84.8 mpg (30.3 km/l) and an EV range of 25 miles (40 km). In addition, the emissions are as low as 75gm/km as per the WLTP cycle.

Price And Availability

The new Range Rover series, with its hybrid diesel engines, is available across all European markets except Italy, where only the D250 engine option is on offer. Moreover, the new Range Rover is available for order now, and the price range in the UK starts at £83,465 (ex-showroom).
