Windows 10 October 2020 Update Officially Released For Everyone

The second Windows 10 feature update of this is year is out now, known as the October 2020 Update. In a blog post, Microsoft said that rollout of the 20H2 update aka Windows 2009 would happen gradually over the coming weeks to ensure a “reliable download experience.” Hence, there could be days before it arrives on your machine.

This is also to ensure that compatibility issues don’t spoil the show just like it happens with every rollout. For such devices, Microsoft will block the update rollout until the issues are fixed.

Anyway, the October 2020 Update comes with a handful of features added to Start Menu, Taskbar, Microsoft Edge, and the Settings app. Other than that, there are mostly performance improvements under the hood.

To get the Windows 10 2009 update on your system, you can simply go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Here, click on Check for Updates, and the manual option to download the October 2020 Update will show up if the update is available for the device.

Similar to last year, when users upgraded from 1904 to 1909, they should expect faster installation times while installing version 2009. In the last few feature updates, Microsoft has made internal changes such that now most of the installation part happens in the background while the user can continue doing whatever they want. It has managed to reduce the downtime caused by restarting the machine.

In addition to the update, Microsoft has also released the first preview build of Microsoft Edge for Linux. The company has been working on the browser for almost a year now.
