Older iPhones and some old Android phones won’t get WhatsApp support starting 1 January 2021. If you’re the proud owner of the original iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy SII, you won’t be able to run WhatsApp anymore. While the collectors always knew this day was coming, if you’re using any of these devices as your daily driver, you’ll need to upgrade to run WhatsApp now.
If you’re running an older jailbroken iPhone, you can run WhatsApp on it but you won’t get updates or support for it. That said, here are all the devices that won’t run WhatsApp in 2021. There are also devices that will run WhatsApp after an OS update.
Phones That Won’t Get WhatsApp Support In 2021:
- iPhone 1
- iPhone 3G
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- Motorola DROID RAZR
- Samsung Galaxy SII
- HTC Desire
- LG Optimus Black
Phones That Will Run WhatsApp After Updating To iOS 9, Android 4.0.3, Or KaiOS 2.5.1
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6S
- Samsung Galaxy Note (T879)
- Samsung Galaxy SIII and above
- Motorola DROID 4
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Thunderbolt (4G)
- LG Lucid
- Sony Xperia Pro
- JioPhone (KaiOS 2.5.1 or later)
- JioPhone 2 (KaiOS 2.5.1 or later)
Why You Should Update Your Phone?
If you’re running one of the above-mentioned devices or any phones from around the same time, you should keep them updated. If your phone isn’t receiving any more updates, it is vulnerable to a number of bugs, unsupported apps, and more malware. Just like WhatsApp, older devices are likely to lose more functionality as apps get more sophisticated and require a better level of security.
