antiX 19.3 Released: A Systemd-Free Lightweight Linux Distro With IceWM

The developer team at antiX Linux distribution has released a new version, antiX 19.3 “Manolis Glezos.” It is the third iteration of the current antiX-19 series.

antiX is a lightweight, systemd-free, and Debian GNU/Linux-based operating system for Intel-AMD x86 compatible systems. Let’s see what the new antiX-19.3 has to offer:

antiX 19.3 “Manolis Glezos”: What’s New?

As antiX is available in four versions: Full, Base, Core, and Net for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers, the new ISO images of all variants include bug fixes, package upgrades, and other improvements.

Similar to the previous release, v19.3 is also based on the Debian 10 “Buster,” supporting both SysV and Runit init systems. Subsequently, it has backported the latest firmware from Debian sid and added various security upgrades from upstream Debian.

However, with the inclusion of more firmware and support for old and new hardware, the size of the ISO images of the latest point version has also increased a bit.

Among other core component updates, antiX-19.3 has upgraded its default window manager IceWM from the previous version 1.6.5 to the latest upstream version 1.8.3 and the kernel from v4.9.212 to the new v4.9.235.

Furthermore, it has also included the latest software packages such as Firefox-ESR 78.3.0, and Libreoffice 7.0.2.2. Lastly, you now have an antiX Wi-Fi switch tool in antiX-19.3, that allow you to choose Wi-Fi manager. By default, ConnMan and Ceni network managers are available.

Now, if you want to try the new version 19.3, download the ISO image by clicking the button below or if you’re already using the antiX-19 series OS, you can simply upgrade your system.
