iPhone 12 Battery Is 300mAh Less Than That Of The iPhone 11

Following the iPhone 12 series launch, Apple has been calling the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, “the most powerful iPhone ever.”

Well, they are not wrong; the recent Geekbench results suggest that the iPhone 12 Pro and the Pro Max are at least 25% faster than the iPhone 11 Pro models. But at the same time, I have been having a difficult time accepting the iPhone 12 as the overall package, given its battery is at least 300 mAh less than the iPhone 11.

According to a regulatory filing from Brazil, the iPhone 12 has a 2,815mAh battery that is smaller than the 3,110mAh battery in the iPhone 11. The filing also states that the iPhone 12 Mini features a 2,227mAh battery. The document was shared by ANATEL, a Brazil telecommunication agency that certifies electronic products.

Interestingly, Apple claims that the iPhone 12 can deliver 17 hours of video playback, which is the same as the iPhone 11. Apple’s claims might be based on the new A14 Bionic chip’s power efficiency. It would be interesting to see whether iPhone 12 can actually deliver on the 17 hours of battery backup, given there is also a new OLED display to handle.

As for iPhone 12 mini, Apple says it can deliver up to 15 hours of video playback, which seems fair given iPhone SE 2020, which sports a 1,821 mAh battery, promises to deliver 13 hours of video playback.

Several iPhone users have been facing battery issues since updating their device to iOS 14. iPhone 12, offering a lesser battery than the last-gen iPhone, would only be adding fuel to the fire.

iPhone 12 starts at $799 and the iPhone 12 Mini will be available at $699. In India, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini have been priced at Rs 79,990 and Rs 69,990 for the 64GB variant.

Indian users, who are planning to switch to iPhone, can also consider the iPhone 11 series, which has been selling at discounted prices — iPhone 11 64GB at Rs 47,999 and iPhone 11 Pro (64GB) at Rs 79,999.
