Though the rivalry between Tesla Model S and Lucid Air might be new, it seems as interesting as El Clásico. Lucid Air is yet to hit the market, but this luxury electric car is already giving Tesla some goosebumps.
Last month, after Lucid Motors unveiled its electric sedan Lucid Air, Tesla appeared somewhat out of its comfort zone. Lucid Motors showcased multiple variants of ‘Lucid Air’ with some impressive on-paper specs. One of the variants of Lucid Air, in fact, has an electric range of 517 miles.

Soon after the unveiling event, Tesla announced the Model S Plaid variant with an electric range of over 520 miles under a similar price range.
Back in September, Lucid motors said the price for the base variant would be around $80,000. However, now the EV maker has reduced the price straight to $69,900 after the federal tax credit. Interestingly, Tesla has also slashed the price of the Model S base variant to $69,420.
Both these cars have similar specs and a similar electric range (approx. 400 miles) and the same price range. This is one of the most exciting electric vehicle rivalries we came across so far.
Tesla Model S Vs Lucid Air: Intentional Rivalry?
One of the most prominent figures behind Lucid Air is Mr. Peter Rawlinson, who is currently the CEO and CTO of Lucid Motors.
Mr. Rawlinson is a former Tesla employee and is known for his role as Chief Engineer for Tesla Model S. However, in 2012, Peter left Tesla and moved forward to join Lucid Motors as its CEO.
Before unveiling Lucid Air, Peter claimed that the car he is working on would be better than Tesla Model S. Also, he had mixed reviews about the freedom and working environment at Tesla.

Obviously, at that time, nobody would have guessed that Lucid Air will debut with such amazing specs. However, now people, as well as Tesla, seem to be recognizing this electric car.
It seems like Tesla doesn’t want to lose its market share at any cost due to Lucid Air. Perhaps it might be a case of pride as for so long Tesla dominated the EV market, and now someone who worked under its nose is giving it some real competition.
Anyway, it’s just an opinion, and as EV enthusiasts, we hope it will be a healthy competition between the two EV makers. With that said, it would be better if Tesla reduces the price of the rest of its electric vehicles as it did for Model S.
