Uno Platform has managed to port the Windows Calculator app to Ubuntu Linux by the name of Uno Calculator. The company has previously brought the Windows Calculator app to other platforms, including Android, iOS, macOS, and Web Assembly.
The Windows Calculator was ported with the help of the Canonical team and is now available on the Snap Store as a preview version for the x64 architecture. The fact that Windows Calculator was open-sourced last year made the process much easier. In fact, Uno Platform ported the calculator to Android, iOS, macOS just months after it landed on GitHub.
Microsoft originally developed the calculator app back in 1985, and since then it has been preloaded in all versions of the Windows OS.
In addition to Ubuntu, the Windows Calculator Linux port also works with RHEL, Fedora, Debian, Linux Mint, CentOS, and many other Linux distros. The platform support even includes Raspberry Pi and Tesla cars.
Uno Platform gained support for Linux earlier this year and then started working on bringing the Windows Calculator app to the platform. Uno said in a blog post that it created the Linux version of the Windows Calculator app by compiling the old C++ codebase from the 1990s and adding a new .NET 5 “project head.”
Nonetheless, having a useful Windows app on Linux could be an option for those looking for a change from the default offering.
