Engine / Performance
2020 Nissan Magnite
Nissan Magnite is available with two engine options. A naturally aspirated (NA) 1.0-liter petrol engine and a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine. While the NA petrol engine is paired with manual transmission (MT) only, the turbo variant is available in both MT and CVT.
Engine Options | B4D 1.0L NA Petrol | HRA0 1.0L Turbo Petrol | HRA0 1.0L Turbo Petrol (CVT) |
Power Output | 71 BHP | 98.6 BHP | 98.6 BHP |
Torque | 96 Nm | 160 Nm | 152 NM |
Transmission | 5MT | 5MT | CVT |
In terms of fuel efficiency, it varies from 17 to 20 km/l depending on the engine options.
Kia Sonet
Engine Options | G1.2-liter Smartstream Petrol | G1.0-liter GDi Turbo Petrol | 1.5-liter CRDi Diesel |
Power Output | 81.8 BHP | 118 BHP | 98.6 BHP |
Torque | 115 Nm | 172 Nm | 240 NM |
Transmission | MT | iMT and DCT | MT and AT |
For petrol variant, the mileage is around 17 to 18 km/l. However, for diesel, Kia Sonet could deliver a fuel economy of up to 24 km/l.
2020 Hyundai Venue
Engine Options | 1.2-liter Kappa Petrol | 1.0-liter Kappa Turbo Petrol | 1.5-liter CRDi Diesel |
Power Output | 82 BHP | 118 BHP | 98.6 BHP |
Torque | 111 Nm | 172 Nm | 240 NM |
Transmission | MT | iMT, MT, and DCT | MT |
Since Kia and Hyundai are cousin brands they have used the same engine in Venue and Sonet. Hence, they have similar engine output with little or no variation.
Likewise, in terms of fuel-efficiency, both offer almost equal efficiency.
If we compare the above three cars, it seems that it’s not a fair competition as Magnite is clearly inferior to Venue and Sonet in terms of engine. It also explains why Nissan Magnite is cheaper than its rivals.

In terms of safety, Nissan provides features like hydraulic brake assist, dual-front air bags, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, traction control system, and vehicle dynamics control to name a few.
In contrast, Kia Sonet is loaded with features like a smart air purifier, multi drive modes with traction control mode, ventilated seats, Bose premium sound system with LED mood lights, and over 57 connectivity features, and much more.
From a safety point of view, there are up to airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, vehicle stability management, tire pressure monitoring, front parking sensors, and much more.
On the other hand, Hyundai Venue is no less than any of its rivals when it comes to features. Some of its features include a wireless charger, air purifier, an advanced instrument cluster with rheostat, automatic climate control, arkamys sound system, and much more.
Furthermore, in terms of safety, there are the same features as in Kia Sonet. It’s equipped with up to six airbags, ESC, VSM, HAC, ABS with EBD, and more.
Price: Final Showdown
Car Name | Nissan Magnite | Kia Sonet | Hyundai Venue |
Price (ex-showroom) | Rs 4.99 – 9.45 lakhs | Rs 6.71- 11.99 lakhs | Rs 6.75 – 11.65 lakhs |
The biggest advantage of Nissan Magnite over its rivals is its affordability. It seems like Nissan has used it as a trump card to gain an advantage. The company kept the price lower and it’s clearly reflected in the engine configuration and the overall specs of the 2020 Nissan Magnite.
In terms of performance, the Nissan Magnite seems more like a hatchback. However, when it comes to size, appearance, and features, Magnite is quite impressive. Nissan Magnite can be a good option for those looking for the aforementioned features in an affordable car.
However, if you are looking forward to a performance-oriented car and like to feel the adrenaline rush while accelerating then it’s not the right car for you. Then, we suggest increasing your budget and go for the turbo variant of either Kia Sonet or Hyundai Venue.
