Manjaro Linux 20.2 “Nibia” Is Out With Pop Shell And Material Shell

Manjaro Linux project team developer Philip Müller has officially announced a new point version, Manjaro 20.2 “Nibia.”

The latest release comes with Pamac 9.5.12, Kernel 5.9 and 5.4 LTS, updated desktop environments, and other new features.

What’s New In Manjaro 20.2?

As you may know, this Arch Linux-based rolling distribution is available in three editions with Xfce, KDE, and GNOME desktop environment.

So starting with the GNOME edition, it has received major enhancements including several new features and the latest GNOME desktop version 3.38.2 codenamed “Orbis.”

With GNOME 3.38, you get better performance, custom App grid, new Welcome Tour app, multi-monitor support, parental control, share Wi-Fi Hotspot via QR Code, and more.

Additionally, Application Utility in Manjaro 20.2 has got improvements, which now let you choose your favourite browsers, office suites, and password managers.

Going further, GNOME edition now comes with two automatic window tiling managers: keyboard-driven Pop Shell and touch-friendly Material Shell. You can enable it in the Gnome-Layout-Switcher.

The changes for GNOME variant do not end here. This is what more Manjaro Linux 20.2 with GNOME 3.38.2 includes:

  • Improved Keybindings
  • Boot splash and graphical password dialogs
  • Trimmed desktop
  • Wayland as default on non-NVIDIA hardware
  • New OEM style installation

Coming to the KDE edition, it also features the latest Plasma 5.20 desktop environment, which brings beautiful wallpaper, Wayland improvements, grid-like system tray, new power-saving options, touch support in dolphin, and more.

Lastly, Xfce ISO ships a polished and stable Xfce 4.14 desktop to give reliable performance and leading-edge experience.

How To Get Manjaro 20.2?

Since Manjaro is a rolling release Linux distribution, you only need to update your package database and all packages on the system to switch to the new version 20.2.

Hence, run the following command in your terminal to upgrade your system:

sudo pacman -Syu

Use another command to force a full refresh of the package database and update all packages on the system.

sudo pacman -Syyu

However, if you want a fresh installation of Manjaro 20.2 from scratch, download the ISO image with your desired desktop from the official site.
